Getting started guide
Welcome to your pole, aerial, and dance movement journey! We have collected the most common questions by people wanting to get a quick start and have answered them on this page.
How much are classes?
Our group classes are $35 per class.
If you purchase a multi-class pass or upgrade to a membership the price per class decreases.
We run special deals occasionally. Follow us at @soflysocial on Instagram to stay up to date on featured deals.
What classes can I take as a newbie?
We recommend taking four Level 1 classes to start in your preferred apparatus (pole, silks, or lyra).
You are also welcome to take any all-level/no experience necessary classes like Sensual Slow Flow, Bend Not Break (Flexibility classes), or Burlesque. Shop your options on our Class Descriptions page. Each class will detail prerequisites / requirements needed to join.

Can my friend, child, or significant other stay in the studio with me while I take class?

Can I have an alcoholic beverage before class?
No. Do not attend class under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If an instructor suspects you are under the influence you will be asked to leave immediately with no refund.

Getting started with pole
What kind of poles do you have?
We have stainless steel 45mm diameter X-Poles that are ceiling mounted and rated to accommodate 500+ lbs.
Pole Room 101 has 15 foot tall poles and Pole Rooms 201 and 202 have 9 foot tall poles.
I have never tried pole dancing before. Can I go to an Open Studio session to try it out?
No, Open Studio is meant for students who have attended at least one Level 1 Pole class at soFly Social or have existing experience with pole dancing.
What should I wear to pole dancing class?
For beginner pole dancers, we recommend wearing tight-fitting shorts or capris that expose the backs of the knees and a sleeveless top. Exposed skin helps the body grip the pole better! Please do not wear lotion, or rings or bracelets as these will damage our poles.
What footwear should I bring to pole dancing class?
We recommend dancing with bare feet for our beginner pole classes to get comfortable with the apparatus. It is also helpful to have socks and/or leg warmers, and knee pads on standby.
I want to start wearing heels! What kind do you recommend?
We recommend stripper dance heels with a 7” heel minimum and an ankle strap for stability.
Should I apply lotion to my skin before class?
No, lotion can cause you to feel extra slippery and may prevent you from having the right amount of grip needed for pole.
What else should I bring to class?
A water bottle is highly recommended for all of our classes. We also recommend knee pads if you have sensitive knees.
What should I avoid?
We recommend leaving your valuables at home and taking off any jewelry before attending class to avoid snags and choking hazards.
Please practice good hygiene and arrive free of any strong smells (perfume or body odor).
Getting started with aerials
What kind of aerial set up do you have?
We have silks, lyra and silicon aerial pole. Aerial Room 102 has approximately 18 feet of usable height for aerials.
I have never tried aerials before. Can I go to an Open Studio session to try it out?
No, Open Studio is meant for students who have attended at least one Level 1 aerial apparatus class at soFly Social or have existing experience with aerials.
What should I wear to aerial class?
For all beginner aerials, we recommend wearing tight-fitting athletic wear that covers your torso, arm pits, and the backs of your knees. Please do not wear jewelry as this can damage our equipment.
